Creating the Life You WantDr. Susan Biali Gives Advice on Creating Success & Happiness in Life
A wellness expert and life coach Dr. Susan Biali shares tips with Suite101 on creating a happy and successful life by unveiling the blueprint that's already inside.
According to Dr. Biali, people don’t pause and ask themselves often enough: “What do I really want to do with my life? What feels right, what feels wrong?” Turning inward and relying on oneself is the foundation of her upcoming book Your Prescription for Life! 7 Steps to A Healthier, Happier You to be released by Beaufort Books in January 2010. In her own life Dr. Biali chose the path less traveled against societal norms and friends' advice by leaving a successful full-time medical practice to start a dancing career. Today, she fuels her passion for dance to inspire and educate others to realize their full potential by trusting in themselves and living their dreams. Trusting Your Instincts and Balancing LifeBiali’s number one advice is to be true to oneself and trust one’s instincts about what’s best for the individual. Looking back at her own story, leaving behind her medical career to live in another country so she could focus on being a professional dancer seemed insane to most people who knew her. This one step has created all the momentum Biali has now. Biali admits that if she had not followed her heart, trusted her instincts and taken that risk people wouldn’t be that interested in speaking to and learning from her. According to Biali balancing one’s life is simpler than people might think. One of the things the life coach and wellness expert teaches in her workshops is that anytime one is stressed and overwhelmed with life it is most important to fall back on three fundamental basics to creating balance and happiness but oftentimes the most neglected. They are eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising; even if it’s going for a brief walk. As a medical doctor and nutritionist expert, Biali stresses the importance of tuning into one’s body. The body will send immediate messages when mistreated or an imbalance occurs. Biali learned this first hand in her own life when she made the wrong career choice, her body would react with depression, low mood, migraine and other symptoms. She finally paused and asked herself what is really going on looking inward to investigate the cause. “It’s about taking the time to reflect and the answers will come,” says Biali. Finding Balance and Happiness in Tough Economic TimesDuring these tough economic times, many are stressed about money and discouraged by the job market. Biali faced this harsh reality and lack of resources first hand when she packed her bags and left for Mexico to become a dancer. What may have seemed very glamorous from the outside was not as easy for her. Biali had to get resourceful about the skills she had and initially took odd jobs in order to survive. What she learned from her journey is that these difficult times can sometimes be a “blessing in disguise”. It gives way to pause and take a step back allowing oneself to evaluate the past and determine a new path for the future. “Even if you don’t have the financial resources to go back to school or start a business,” Biali stresses. “There is always something you can do, a small step that will eventually take you into a new direction toward happiness and success.” Dr. Biali appears regularly in international media, including MSNBC and The Good Life Network. Her commentary has appeared in various print media including Self, Fitness, and The Medical Post. Dr. Biali is available for media and speaking.
